While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I’m not going to change my blog because of you. I will, however, tag all of my posts that could be seen as spoilers so that programs like Tumblr Savior will block them.
Completely agree.
Let’s be friends.
I think I might be more possessive of the things I like. Maybe.
Hm. Well, the things I like are things I care about. So I suppose you have a point.
I plan on reading both this summer heh. I was really into Manga in HS…never read other books…hah.
READ THEM. And then we should make our own book club and talk about them because they’re both great and life-changing.
HOW I FEEL ABOUT PEOPLE WHO BECAME FANS OF THE WHITE STRIPES AFTER THEIR BREAKUP. also, Alyssa you hipster :p
Right? My thing is, it’s okay to have new fans. It’s always okay to have new fans. As long as the fans are legitimate and have some sort of deep connection that resembles the connection the older fans have. It’s the naive fans who just like something because it’s popular that drive me crazy. I don’t know. I’m possessive over the things I care about.
Thoughts on the Perks trailer:
This book changed my life. I read it for the first time at the end of freshman year of high school. That was four years ago. I’ve read it countless times since then and have fallen even more in love with it every time. There are a few things that have truly changed me, and this book is one of them (as well as Rent and Allison Weiss).
Well, I just saw the trailer. While I’m expecting there to be some flaws, I thought the trailer was as flawless as it could be. I’m extremely in love with and impressed with the cast. Emma, Logan, and Ezra are all great at their respective parts. I have a feeling they’re going to bring the characters to life so unbelievably well. The trailer was just great and it gives me hope for the movie as a whole. Especially since Chbosky himself directed the movie.
With that being said, I’m afraid of this book/movie/culture becoming mainstream. This book changed my life and, while I’d love to share that with many people and love meeting new people who are equally as in love with it and devoted to it as I am, it unnerves me that there will be new fans who don’t have the connection that I do. It unnerves me that there will be people jumping on the bandwagon because it’s the cool thing to do. Of course I’m grateful for new, dedicated readers of this book, but I’m afraid of the people who aren’t as impacted by it as I- as well as the majority of the other Perks lovers- are. I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m afraid of the faux-lovers. My arms are open to embrace new members to this lovely community, but I’m afraid of the mass-media production of something so close to my heart.
I think I’m going to feel very similarly when The Fault in Our Stars movie comes out.
And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.
